Public Records Requests:
This workshop provides a summary overview of the California Public Records Act, AB 2534, and the legal requirements related to an employer’s custody of personnel records and an employee’s privacy interests. It also reviews the types of records that must be maintained within a personnel file.
Political Activities by Employees:
Public education employees have First Amendment rights to engage in political activity on their own time; however, restrictions apply during work hours. Laws and regulations distinguish between permissible off-duty personal expression and prohibited on-duty activities, including restrictions under California’s Education Code on the misuse of district resources for ballot measures or candidates. This workshop offers an overview of permitted and prohibited political activities in the workplace.
